Calling all Fur Mommas - Need some Advice

Calling all Fur Mommas

Calling all Fur Mommas

My Mom and I have a question.

I went to see the Doctor yesterday and he said I have a knee problem. Specifically, he said I have a luxating patella STAGE 3 (YIKES). Mom and I have been doing some research and it seems that my knee will eventually get worse and I will need a surgery. I am only 2 years old - WTF?????

We wanted to reach out to all you fur babies and see if you ever had this luxating patella or knew anybody who did and get some advice.

My mommy is not rushing into anything since it does not bother me but really wants to know if anyone has experience with this problem.

Thanks.

Love from Pugs,
Rosie Marie

Sorry about your knees Rosie!! Momma has no experience with this, but if she hears anything she'll send it your way. I'm glad it's not bothering you. Hopefully, you won't have to have surgery for a REALLY long time!!!! Have a good weekend!!

Our brother Romeo had that, our parents didn't find out about it until he was older and they chose not to have it operated on. He got around fine just limped a little but didn't seem to be in pain. Since you are still a youngster talk to a vet and get a second opinion. Meanwhile make sure you watch the weight, you know we all have issues! Eat lots of veggies, and some ground flax seed in your food would be a good idea also.

I sure wish I knew more about this! Although, after reading about it, I am wondering if Pearl has it. She has been carrying one of her back legs a little... oy.

My only advice for now is keep her exercised- walks, not heavy activity- to keep her muscles strong and consider some joint-support supplements. I give Pearl a glucosamine 'treat'. I buy them at Petsmart. Also, just try to minimize her jumping onto and off of things.

Hope you get some good info! Hugs to Rosie!!

Hi Rosie,
I'm so glad Mom clicked over to your blog from Miss Pearls post. I have information for you.I have the same thing. It started bothering me when I was your age and my vet said the same thing. I posted about it in my blog, the title of the post is the enlightened pug. I give some details there, but the bottm line is accupuncture. I startedseeing a holistic vet that specializes in chirpractic, accupuncture and chinese medicine. I have been seeing her for the past 7 years and my leg hasn't given me ant trouble since about 3 months after I started treatment. Now I just go for maintainance. My sister Brigitte started seeing her last year for arthritis in her paw and she is feeling much better too. I hope you have this kind of vet near you.I can't encourage you enough to look into it. I also take Dasiquin (a glucosamine and condrointen supplement) and fish oil. I used to use solitariy hermit which is a chinese herb, but I started spitting it out. Mom and the vet figured out I really didn't need it any more. My sister takes Trixsyn, which is a synovial fluid supplement. That helps her.I hope this helps and I wish you yhe best in your treatment f this disorer. My advise, say no to surgery.

Well, heck, Rosie honey....sorry tuh hear that!

Now I don't have no problems with my knees but that Wilma gal sounds like she knows whut she's talkin' 'bout. My mom says accupuncture an' chiropractic stuff an' massage is WAY better than pills an' fancy surgeries - at least until ya HAVE tuh do it!

Hi Sweet Rosie!

We don't know anything about this...BUT...we know that Lexie (Gus and Indy's mom) from The Pug Chronicles bloggie could help you. I think Indy has this.

No wait...maybe it's Jess (Clover and Chewy's mom). Crap...it's one of the nice Canadian bloggers.

We'll find out and let you know on FB.

Sorry to hear your knees aren't treating you well Rosie.

Mommy isn't sure if it's the same thing, but I (Pearl) have bad knee problems. Both of my kneecaps on my hind legs aren't on my knees anymore! It got so bad last year that I wasn't putting any weight on one leg (but I was sneaky and Mommy didn't notice for awhile). Now, I'm on anti-inflammation medicine. I take a very low does and am doing great. But no one has ever mentioned surgery...so again, we're not sure if it's the same problem or not.

We sure hope you find a good solution. We read Wilma's post about acupuncture and think that sounds fantastic!

We hope whatever you do, you feel better.
